Mission Day
Mission Day 2025
Mission Day 2025 took place on 24th January 2025, the day of the launch of the Church's Jubilee Year in schools.
Children throughout school discussed how we live, learn and grow together with Jesus. As previously, all children and adults in school added a leaf to the Mission Tree. This represents our commitment to living out our mission statement throughout the year.
Canon Adrian came in to say Mass and all classes spent time during the day considering how they could live out our Mission statement. The children of Year 6 worked together to make a fantastic website on the day. Their great work, of which they are extremely proud, is visible here.
This was a particularly special Mission Day as it coincided with the launch of the Church’s jubilee year. The theme for the Year of Jubilee is “Pilgrims of Hope” so many of the activities that children undertook were linked to the idea of hope.
Our Year 6 dance troupe performed a dance to the song “Singing Jubilee (Pilgrims of Hope)”. We’ll all learn the words and the dance and perform it again at the end of the Jubilee year. Here is the dance troupe performing the dance straight after Mass.
Children in Year 6 made jars of hope for every other class. The children will keep the jar on their prayer tables. Throughout the year, children will write or draw things that make them hopeful on paper, and drop them into these jars. These will create the focus for some of the Celebrations of the Word for the year. Here are some of our Year 6 leaders handing the jar of hope to Class 4 representatives.
Children in classes 4,5 and 6 discussed how we act out our mission statement every day and they also made “wands of hope” using the rainbow colours used in the Pilgrims of Hope logo. These mirror the whole-school jubilee display we have on show in the hall.
The children of classes 2 and 3 all planted seeds of hope on Mission Day. They will watch them grow throughout the year.
Our Mission Day activities were just the beginning of our Jubilee celebrations.
Mission Day 2024
Our first ever Mission Day, held on 2nd February 2024 to coincide with the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, was a wonderful event in which all children were able to consider what our mission statement means and how we can live up to it.
“We live, learn and grow together in Jesus”
Canon Adrian came in to celebrate a special Mass with us and our liturgical dance troupe performed a thought-provoking reflection on our mission statement.
Throughout the rest of the day, the children went through a carousel of activities with different members of staff on the theme of either living, learning or growing together in Jesus.
The children in Years 1 and 2 learnt our school song in Welsh, made Bible bookmarks and read some Bible stories.
The children in Years 3 and 4 found out about the symbolism of our school badge and they did some of their own liturgical dance based on our mission statement.
The Year 5s and 6s did a great job working together to write our new school prayer:
Dear Lord,
Be our example for how to treat each other.
Fill our hearts with friendship and forgiveness.
Grant us the faith and courage we need to do things that are hard.
May hope fill our hearts and help us love one another.
We will live, learn and grow together in your footsteps
And be the best, kindest, most helpful and loving people we can be.
The Year 5 and 6 children were also lucky enough to be visited by the Faith in Action group from St Richard Gwyn, who led a session on the parable of the sower.
Our Mini Vinnies visited Rhiwlas care home, chatting to residents and playing games with them.
All children contributed to our new Mission Tree, which takes pride of place in the hall. Every child’s and staff member's name and face are on the tree. It was a special day and one that leaves a great legacy too.
