Criw Cymraeg

As the Criw Cymraeg in school we are responsible for encouraging our staff and pupils to work together to help us achieve the Cymraeg Campus Language Charter Bronze Award. We are very excited about this!

In order to achieve the award, we encourage both children and staff to use the Welsh language as often as possible, in and out of the classroom. We also promote a Welsh ethos in school, celebrate our Welsh heritage and culture as well as recognising and promoting the contemporary Wales we live in today.

The Criw Cymraeg consists of two members from each class, from Reception to Year 6. We meet every Monday to decide the phrase of the week, plan our Gwasanaeth Cymraeg (Welsh Assembly) and discuss how to celebrate any special events that may be coming up in our Welsh calendar.

We lead a fortnightly assembly during which we sing Welsh songs, listen to Welsh music and tell stories about Wales. To help raise the profile of the use of the Welsh language across school, we introduce a staff phrase of the week and a children’s phrase of the week. We announce which class has earned the most Tocyn Cymraeg and present a certificate to a member of each class who is Welsh Speaker of the Week/Siaradwr Yr Wythnos.

We are really looking forward to the busy term ahead during which we hope to achieve some of our targets towards achieving the Bronze award!

Cofion cynnes,
